About the Project
“Are We Dreaming the Same Dream?” is a project combining the 7-time national prize-winning Akropolis Reed Quintet, Grammy-nominated composer and pianist Pascal Le Boeuf, and one of Revive Magazine’s “six drummers you should know about,” Christian Euman. “Are We Dreaming the Same Dream” is a new work composed for the septet by Le Boeuf, supported in part by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The dueling elements prized and exemplified by the three collaborative parties create a novel hybridization that draws from both classical and jazz idioms and provides a flexible framework to reflect on American identity—in classical music, in jazz, and in American culture in general—by commenting on overlapping and conflicting strands of influence from composers who have historically represented American identity in their work, such as Charles Mingus, Geri Allen, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Dave Brubeck.
