Celebrating its 10th year, Akropolis Reed Quintet brings its “imagination, infallible musicality, and huge vitality” (Fanfare Magazine) to Troy, presenting colorful and cinematic works the group has commissioned and thrilling interpretations of the music of Astor Piazzolla and George Gershwin. Gallimaufry (2015), in which the composer creates a “Dr. Seuss-like” instrument made of the reed quintet’s disparate but brilliantly blended sounds. Akropolis then connects three works influenced by tango, folk, and jazz, closing with an epic arrangement of Gershwin’s An American in Paris.
